Sewerage Treatment Plant
Sewerage Treatment Plant are classified accordance to design capacity in terms of Population Equivalent (PE). There are four classification to be adopted as shown on Figure below.

There are several sewerage treatment plant system.
1) Fine Bubble Diffuser Air Extended Aeration System (EA)
One of them is through Fine Bubble Diffuser Air Extended Aeration System (EA); sequence process as shown in Figure below which operated in combination of both aerobic and anerobic condition.

Fine Bubble Diffuser Air Extended Aeration system (EA)
Advantages using this EA process is to have longer hydraulic retention time which allow process to operate effectively over widely varying flow and waste loading. This process allows sewage to undergo screening process in removing debris, grit and grease. Once completed screening process, the sewage will flow into anoxic tank with sufficient mixing to breakdown biodegradable organic matter without oxygen supply. Biodegradable organic matter and non-biodegradable organic matter (inorganic matter) are decomposed by bacterial in the aeration tank with oxygen supply generated by mechanical equipment. Lastly, the treated effluent are then discharge to downstream river in accordance to Environmental Quality Act 1974 standard B.
2) Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) System
Second method is SBR system which are operated in batch of mechanical biological treatment at same reactor with different sequences of time as shown in Figure below:

The process of SBR system is considered a fill and draw activated sludge system and whole treatment was controlled by Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Through system operation, the bacteria in sewage was decomposed into biodegradable and non-biodegradable organic matter in aerobic condition with sufficient oxygen supply generated by mechanical equipment. The balancing tank at preliminary treatment is used for storage purpose when the secondary treatment begin. During the secondary treatment, sewage transfer from balancing tank to SBR tank will be fill and aerated together. 3) Oxidation Ditch (OD) System

The difference between OD and EA system are the aerobic, anaerobic and sedimentation process operated in sequences of process in oxidation pond. Furthermore, the process designed with minimum velocity (0.3 m/s) within the oxidation pond and sufficient unidirectional air to keep activated sludge in suspension for decomposed process to occur. Mechanical aeration equipment such as surface aerator and paddle wheel help to generate oxygen supply in the pond.
4) Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) System
Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) is an advanced technology and reliable wastewater treatment processes.
It is a combination of conventional biological treatment (activated sludge) processes with membrane filtration like microfiltration/ultrafiltration with a suspended growth bioreactor to provide an advanced level of organic and suspended solids removal. Also, coliform bacteria and virus can be shut out as well. This level of filtration allows high quality effluent to be drawn through the membranes and eliminates the sedimentation and filtration processes.
Complete independent control of Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) and Sludge Retention Time (SRT). Allows more complete reduction of COD, and improved stability of processes such as nitrification. The mixed liquor from the biological treatment can be separated clearly into solid and liquid state. It assures almost 100% removal of SS and no carry over of SS into the effluent.
MBR system is widely used for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plant with plant sizes up to 80,000 population equivalents. Thus, is commonly used when daily volume are 48 million liters per day or less.
